EcoGuide: Forest Insect Pests
EcoGuide: Forest Insect Pests is a unique mobile guide that provides detailed information about the tree pest insects of Northern Eurasia. With 92 species covered, the app offers drawings of the insects at different stages of their life cycle, including imago, eggs/laying, and larva/caterpillar. Additionally, the app provides text descriptions of the insects' appearance, reproduction cycle, way of life, habitats, feeding plants, and the economical loss they cause to the forest industry.
One of the key features of EcoGuide: Forest Insect Pests is its simplicity in species identification. Users can easily identify species by using three simple determination characters: appearance, type of damage, and feeding plant. Each of these characters hasvalues to choose from, making the identification process quick and efficient.
The app is designed to be used in the field, without the need for an internet connection. This allows users to identify unknown insects or damaged plants directly in nature. The Guide section of the app helps narrow down the possible species to 2-3, and then users can compare their findings with images and descriptions in the Atlas section.
